Tom Croghan, MD

Effortless Mastery
A system for getting the most out of limited practice time. This can be applied to many disciplines. Based on the book "Effortless Mastery" by jazz piano great Kenny Werner

What is Jazz?
While jazz is most commonly thought of as a style Tom would have you think of it as music that ideally focuses on the creative elements of music. This can be an introduction to the many forms that jazz can take. This may be demonstrated using recordings and/or as live performance.

Technics Music Academy
"Not just your usual piano lessons"
At Richland Academy Tom teaches beginning music students from age 4 to 94. Technics electronic keyboards are used in conjunction with the Technics Music Academy Program. What sets this program apart is that, in addition to basic keyboard skills and sight-reading, rhythmic skills, ear training, and even improvisation are emphasized. Demonstrations are offered at the Academy or at the meeting site of your choice.

Electronic Keyboards for Music Education
Tom demonstrates how he uses electronic keyboards for teaching beginning music students, music theory and improvisation, and for performances.

The International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE)
As the past-President of the Ohio Unit of IAJE, Tom has been active in the leadership of this fantastic international organization. He has found that membership in this organization can benefit not only jazz educators and professional musicians, but also all music teachers and students at all levels, as well as those wishing to become better jazz "enthusiasts". In this talk he discusses the many benefits of membership.
